One Goal at a Time

Age Group: Adult
I have a simple goal in mind,
It's like point A to B;
I'm told I only need to find
The will inside of me.
But wait, it seems before I start
I need be at point A,
And once I glance into my heart
I'll be well on my way.
And now with preparation done
Point A is now achieved,
But here is not where I begun,
Or where my goal was conceived.
With every step, a-one, a-two,
I find that I must laugh;
Point B's so far ahead, it's true!
I'm barely at A-and-a-half.
No longer is this path so fine,
Nor is it what I sought;
Nor has it been a short straight line,
Nor as easy as I thought.
And finally, after efforts made
Point B comes into sight,
Still there, although I was delayed
By this goal's uphill fight.
The goal is reached, I now contend
Point B is now achieved,
But now I see it's not the end
Or what my goal perceived.
The goal itself is rather bland
So I shall not retire;
The goal is just a place to stand
While aiming even higher.
I have a simple goal in mind,
It's like point B to C;
I'm told I only need to find
The will inside of me.
