Homemade Garden Salad

Fresh-picked by hand I did,
Outside within the garden
Among those busy beetles
No chemicals to pardon
A radish so bright red
So reverent and holy
It lacks a few small bites
By a nearby roly-poly
Tomato vines so lush
As if to make a thicket
Though clearly shared before
With a hungry singing cricket
And carrots bright and orange,
I harvest as I chant
Yet part of one is missing,
Suspicious looking ant...
A lush bowl full of green
About which is this ballad
A leafy-green delight
My homemade veggie salad
Good gracious, can it be?
Attention now behooved,
Pray tell me, what was that?
The lettuce leaf just moved!
