eBooks of eShadows

by Phronesus Disegno

Age Group: Adult

Now here's just one perspective
That I thought I'd share with you,
Can't say it's true for anyone else
But for me, I've found it's true.

It is said that a Book of Shadows
Is a must for one to keep
And the book need not be an actual "book"
On the nightstand where you sleep;

It can be a personal journal
Or a secret diary
Or a blog, or an online notebook
Or even one's poetry.

Now I've gone back and read my own,
And one thing I did discover --
Matters not what it was all about,
My life, my desires, my lover...

It may not be the same for you
But for me it is really great,
The pattern is that my endeavoring changes
Come true on month number eight.

From the moment I realize and write it down,
Keep it conscious as I live and wait...
Yours may be different, you'll figure it out!
But for me it is month number eight.

Author's Notes: Well, it's a dual purpose poem. The title asserts that records need not be limited to pen-and-paper records, because I'm just not sure I would have the patience to write something on paper when I can just type it into a computer file. The second half of the poem is what I have discovered from having kept my own records.

Actually, patterns of change for me occur in discreet time periods that are in multiples of eight, such as eight days, eight weeks, eight minutes if I'm lucky, or eight years if it must be that way. If it seems that change never occurs, it's because the real changes take time and effort. But eight months seems to be the norm for me. And I wouldn't actually realize it if I never kept my own records, my own poetry, my own journal, my own personal notes to refer back to later and study in a different light.

At any rate, writing a poem about recognizing patterns in one's own life so that those patterns can be further utilized is no secret... even people who don't [knowingly] practice any form of Magick are aware of its potential.

This poem is just a shared celebration of my own discoveries, a reminder and a reinforcement of what we already know, a proclamation that keeping personal records and studying them later reveals one's own personal mysteries, and an acknowledgement that it is potentially different but useful for everyone.
