Global Dimming Versus Global Warming

Ten percent less is Father Sky
Of the light shining from the Sun
Clouds send back the light
With pollutants in flight
Ever since global dimming's begun.
Burning even more fuels every day
Trapping heat, not light, from the Sun
And the temperatures rise
Drying clouds from the skies
Ever since global warming's begun.
In this cooling and warming conflict
Mother Earth is just trying to cope
A hundred years will have passed
One chance will be the last;
We'll be gone, as will everyone's hope.
Author's Notes: Inspired by a recent episode of the television series called Nova. The name of the episode was "Global Dimming". The show suggested that global dimming cancels some of the effects of global warming, but that both are caused by pollution. The show also suggested that global warming is progressing faster than global dimming. On 9-11 (September 11, 2001) , there were a few days in which air traffic over the United States was virtually zero. A scientist measured a very significant difference in temperature range over those few days, which returned to the previous temperature range once the air traffic resumed.
I simply cannot believe that the ignorance of how abuse of the environment can go on indefinitely. There are those who know it has been happening for a long time, and there are those who choose to ignore it because they are still comfortable, or more likely, because they are making high profits. Sooner or later, the correctly associated relations between environmental change, the causes for such change, and personal discomfort will become apparent and undeniable. Until then, the greedy ones will always try to divert attention away from themselves as long as they are making money from their exploitations. Just because knowledge and technology exist does not mean they will be implemented right away; if they were, the pharmaceutical industry would not be so profitable because more cures would exist.
Because our environment consists of constantly evolving life, I would like to believe that our environment will respond to pollutants in much the same way that a person's lungs respond to smoking -- the body constantly renews itself and so it can successfully combat the harmful effects for a long time; and once smoking has stopped, the risks of other health problems drop dramatically and complete recovery is possible. That is, if irreversible problems like untreated lung cancer and heart disease have not yet set in. But, let's not forget how difficult it is for many who have tried to quit smoking. We can't simply shut down entire industries without also devastating ourselves, but we can be supportive of new ones. Wouldn't it be nice if we could easily burn hydrogen gas as a fuel? It may sound odd to some who are not familiar with chemistry, but when you burn hydrogen with ordinary oxygen, the waste product is just ordinary water.
I can see it now. One day we might be dependant on hydrogen gas, and then we will be complaining that there is way too much moisture in the air. Can't go anywhere without an umbrella and a bath towel. ;-) Just kidding.
