Just a Request

by Phronesus Disegno
 Age Group: Adult

I have one particular friend And tonight I saw her out She told me there is no one who loves her That her life is nowhere about.
And I said, I could possibly help But I can't do it all alone, That she must play some part But this knowledge is already her own.
She said "everyone" already loves her And will always, until the end; But she's damn f*cking sick and tired Of being everyone's "just a friend"
She says she is way too fat She belives she is ugly too She belives that her life is over And that no one will ever be true
And the sadness crept then upon me To learn she no longer has a goal She believes she is nothing at all That with no love, she isn't whole!
I have told her that I am here That I always was, and so are others She appreciates all of our friendships But wants more than sisters and brothers
So I ask to all who can read This poem written of mine Though she MUST deal with her OWN things I can't guarantee all will be fine
Would you please, if only a thought And if only my humble behest Work with me on this one little issue That all will turn out for the best
For I know life has its balance And I know life is as it will be But my friend asked tonight for my help No results as of yet she can see
I never shall interfere In one's life as mere menial tasks But I would so much like to help When a friend of mine finally asks
It is never for me to decide What one person shall deem as fate But perhaps with a little help Things could change as of recent late
And all of us who ever knew her We love her for all she has been But when will love ever find her? And when will her gentle soul win?
Oh no she is not all that perfect And there's much she will never tell But what greater task for a magician Is there to help someone become well?
For a man who only knows iron His greatest magic is steel* But second only there is to love The greatest magic is to heal
For me there is no single answer Not one that I can ever give For her happiness to ever find her For her life is not mine to live
So you witches, druids and magicians I request this single task That you help her learn all her lessons That she'll have the one thing she may ask
And if you can trust my judgement What you give shall be received too With permission I cast one spell But this time, I need help from you
Emotion was powerful tonight We laughed, and surely we cried "I Have Nothing", the song of aloneness Battled all I have ever tried
So if you please, light a candle To assist me in this one request: May the best happen, harming NO ONE! ...she's my friend... if you haven't guessed. :-)
Author's Notes: Poetry is one means I have always used to express myself. Normally, I write about my own life and experiences. This particular poem is a request for help from someone else to me, and from me to you. I told her I would do all that I could, but that I cannot do it all. Friendship alone cannot replace a deep love that we all yearn for. My friend, for some reason, decided to tell me all about her personal life this evening. She said she hasn't had a real date in ten years. I told her that I would willingly go out on a date with her... she was genuinely appreciative, but that even though I am an honorary pseudo lesbian, as she has dubbed me out of kindness, it just wouldn't be the same, being that I am a man and all. :-) Yes, she is a lesbian. And I'm honored to be a pseudo lesbian according to her. So yeah, I'll do my part, and she will do hers. We've had the discussion, but really, one or several discussions won't do so much, although it always helps to talk about things. Besides having known her for nearly two years, and being the friend I can be, there are just some things I can't do. Not even with my own Magick, which is primarily powerful for my own life and not anyone else's. But I did say that I would do something, and part of that is asking others for help. None of my successes have ever been achieved solely by myself. But then again, I know I am not alone.
* From the phrase noted above, this particular phrase is actually from a fictional character on the role playing game Diablo. The fictional character's name is Adria the Witch. And I have incorporated the phrase into this poem because it goes along with my addendum, that the Magick of healing is among the most advanced to achieve. It sure ain't easy, especially when most people need to heal themselves before they can be of any help to others. Perhaps that's why it is so important to always work together?
ADDENDUM August 9, 2006: The request has been fulfilled. I have written a followup poem, "Just A Request (fulfilled, Thanks to all of you!) " to explain that it worked and also to bring closure to this request. Thanks for all of your help. :-)
