Broken Promises

Age Group: Adult
Others have the right to change their mind,
But then again, so do I.
If broken promises are all I find,
Then I shan't continue to try.
Expectations are rightly for me to make,
From promises made to me.
If meaningful words are spoken by mistake,
Your true colors I'll surely see.
When those truest colors now showing bright
Are ones you hid from my view,
Should my heart pretend to ignore that sight
While I keep my promise to you?
Shall I wait for you to change your ways?
Promise made from invalid reasons;
Wait around for minutes, hours, days,
Or weeks, or through the seasons?
Help me heal though accidental woes,
Hurt me not the same way twice;
The more I trust, the more love grows,
Actions louder than words suffice.
But if pain of loss betrays my trust
In a coarse haphazard dance,
Then to change my mind, I will, I must!
I won't give another chance.
For if broken promises are all I find,
Then I shan't continue to try.
If you have the right to change your mind,
Then certainly, so do I.
