Polar Endpoints of a Span

by Phronesus Disegno
 Age Group: Adult

Is Goddess really a woman? Or God really a man? I've often heard this concept, Polar endpoints without span.
That space between two endpoints Must exist so the enpoints can; For two endpoints cannot exist Without a connecting span.
Is a mother always a woman? Or a father always a man? Usually, yes; But always? No. Polar endpoints of a span.
A rigid bi-polarity Does not complete the plan; For relationships are what they are Through a never-ending span.
Author's Notes: This poem was inspired by some recent communications I have had with a few people who are transgendered, one of whom is an acquaintance of mine for about four years -- she was not born with a female body, and battled transgender dysphoria for for first half of her life.
Back when she was a he, he was married and had two children. They have a very close and loving relationship even today, years after the male-to-female process was completed. Her children still call her "Daddy", because that is the relationship she has always had with them.
She mentioned that terms such as "mother" and "father" are not pronouns, they are relationships. While I always knew this, it helped me to think about such issues more clearly from someone who has had more direct experience in understanding such issues from a transgendered perspective.
Whether it's the God and Goddess, or two human beings, I believe that the relationship and interaction between two who love each other is what gives meaning to life, and if that is the case, gender really does sort of fade off into irrelevancy. This is especially true when the love shared between two people is not sexual. It's a shame so many boil love down to sexual issues, I suspect they could be missing out on some of that which makes life worth living. :-)
