Thank you, Father.
For raising me as best you knew how.
You taught me about life, love. And what was right, and wrong.
You drank coffee with me. Never discouraging me from doing so, even though I was an child at the time.
You played games with me.
Watched me grow up.
Disciplined me, when I needed it most. Especially when I received my first speeding ticket in your car.
We'd watch the television shows together. Then reenact the funny parts together.
I'd watch you prepare your sermon for Church.
Take naps on the couch.
I'd be quiet, when you had to sleep before going to work at midnight.
I'd watch in amazement, as you would do the cryptoquotes and the crossword puzzles. Never quite figuring out how you did it.
I'd watch you get ready for work. Dutiful and with purpose.
I'd watch you kiss Mom good-bye, and good morning.
You became ill.
Now, I and Mother, went to work, and school, with even more energies.
I finished school.
Even though you were not there for graduation; I knew you were, in my heart.
We knew we didn't have much time.
Yet, you were stalwart and true.
Loving and gentle.
Your pain, I would have gladly bear.
Right up to the end; I told you, "I love you, Dad."
And I still do.
This is my way of saying goodbye, Dad. In a way I think you'd approve of.
I miss you.
Your son.
