Where the Spotlight Shines

Age Group: Adult
The loudest ones of all
Are the ones with regret
Needing others to believe
In their self-proclaimed threat
Then the silent ones come
In no fear of the call
And with pure disbelief
Conquer loudest of all.
Author's Notes: Today's date reminds me of a time in my past when my politeness was trampled by someone with overblown oratory. This poem is a reminder to me that many times, people who purposely drown out others to assert their opinions are the ones who are demanding the spotlight, and many times they do so without understanding that it is the listeners, not the speakers, who have control of where the spotlight shines.
Because of this, I am also reminded of a saying I once heard, although I have forgotten who said it, "People don't care what you know, until they know that you care."
I'm glad that my past situation of being interrupted and drowned out has ended. I'll always remember even the bad events of my past, but once they are over I have reason to celebrate having overcome them. Today's date is such a reminder for me.
