Throwing Grapes (Giving Too Much of Self)

In a world-sized vineyard
Making wine so grand
Beneath the sun's scorching heat
A lover took me
By my trusting hand
To squish wine grapes beneath my feet.
The squishy grapes
Between my toes
Stained purple all of my clothing
But where is the wine?
I started to whine
Left alone in abandoned self-loathing.
And then I realized
Nothing ever for me
In false veils of hope I was draped
Made me work in the heat
Squishing grapes with my feet
My GOD -- I have just been GRAPED!
A promise of more
Unfulfilled by less
Yet soon I will feel just fine
I know what's in store
There's no need to guess
From now on I will keep what's mine.
And then later on
When resentment is gone
And I keep to myself what I need
More than enough wine
As the two of us dine
And throw grapes at each other, indeed!
Author's Notes: A symbolic story of giving away too much of myself, without even realizing how abundant life was until I kept what I needed for myself.
