Call of the Lycanthrope©

by Vincent
 Age Group: Adult

The moon Burning brightly in the night Full of heavenly beauty Full of delight
I rejoice in its touch upon my skin And feel its power upon my face My heart now beats faintly again My blood boils and pulses at rapid pace
The primal urge is awakened The beast within stirs The desire to roam with my kin In my mind, this occurs
My skin begins to tingle As if electrified The hair on my body stand up As if the air upon it is rarified
Now comes the basso drum of my heart Beating so hard within my chest My veins jut outwards On my head, almost forming a crest
My bones crack and break Becoming thicker and longer Pain of this is welcome For I am becoming stronger
The hair upon my body, once fine and short Now grows long and coarse, in the moonlit night My nails once short and dull Stretch and thicken, becoming claws of might
My head and face Once aquiline and refined Stretches and convulses Into a dream , and nightmare, combined
My teeth, once short and dull Now fill my maw With thick, razor-sharp, knives And a crushing jaw
With the weakness of the human gone My increased senses take over I can see, hear, and smell All of my kindred and prey, as surely as a bed of clover
With my soul, now encased within the beast Sleeps for now, naught with fright I feel the Moon’s supernatural pull And see it in my wolf eyes, giving me rapturous might
I pay homage to the light And fill my chest with breath of cool air And from my throat comes the sound The Lycanthrope’s freedom of man, which it can never ensnare
Author's Notes: I wrote this today, 8-2-2006. I hope that it will be, to some, good. To others, maybe not-so-good I have been published in several books and readers, but I haven't written anything new, until now. I hope my abilities have not waned in the past 4 years. I hope that you, the reader, will enjoy what has been written.
