THE MAELSTROM

IT IS COMING.....
I FEEL ITS POWER GATHERING.
THE WINDS HOLD THEIR BREATH IN ANTICIPATION.
THE MAELSTROM APPROACHING FROM AFAR,
SHOWS LITTLE OF THE HELLISH FURY CONTAINED WITHIN.
IT IS COMING FOR ME...
I FACE IT LIKE THE WARRIOR I AM.
I STAND ON THE EDGE OF THE CHASM.
BOTTOMLESS, DARK, AND FOREBODING.
THE SHEER CLIFF WALLS ARE AS STRAIGHT AS IF DRAWN WITH A RULER.
IF I FALL, THERE WILL BE NO CHANCE OF SAVING.
MY DEATH WILL BE SLOW AND ANGONIZING.
YET, IF DEATH IS MY REWARD FROM THIS APPROACHING STORM, THEN SO BE IT.
THE LIVES I LEAVE BEHIND, HAVE EXPERIENCED MYSELF AND MY LIFE. THEY SHOULD NOT BE SAD, NOR SHOULD THEY LAMENT.
THERE IS NOTHING BUT HAPPINESS I WISH UPON THEM, AND THEIRS.
HOWEVER, THE APPROACHING STORM IS PREPARING TO UNLEASH ITS ANGER, RAGE, LOATHING, HATRED, ABUSE, DISGUST, AND SADNESS, UPON ME.
I HAVE ENDURED ITS WRATH BEFORE. I WILL ENDURE IT NOW, FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE; IF IT MEANS THAT I CAN STILL PROTECT AND LOVE THOSE CLOSE TO ME.
I PLANT MY FEET FIRMLY,
AND LOOK STRAIGHT UP.
THE HELLSTORM ABOVE ME IS NOW ROILING, RUMBLING, PREPARING TO STRIKE AT ME. HOPING TO DESTROY MY WILL TO GO ON, WITHOUT LOOKING BACK.
I BEGIN TO SCREAM INTO THE GROWING WINDS.
THEY ARE AWESOME IN THEIR STRENGTH ALONE. THREATENING TO PUSH ME OVER THE EDGE. MY FEET SLIDE TOWARDS THE THRESHOLD OF DEATH.
I SHOUT OATHS, EXPLETIVES, CURSES, AND EXPRESS MY RAGE.
I DARE THIS HELLSPAWN TO FINISH ME...
IT DOES NOT HAVE THE COURAGE TO FACE ME.
TO FACE THE TRUTH.
IT WILL FALL, AND I WILL EMERGE.
EITHER INTACT, OR EXPIRED FROM MY EFFORTS, IT MATTERS NOT.
THE FACT LIFE WILL GO ON, APPEALS TO ME MUCH MORE THAN MY PALTRY TIME UPON THIS PLANET.
AND I SMILE IN THAT KNOWLEDGE, AS I TAUNT THE STORM.....
WHO WILL WIN?
ONLY TIME, AND I, CAN TELL.................
