I AM A MAN©

Age Group: Adult
I am a man,
Full of the imperfections of this world,
Infected with the venom of blackness,
Laid low to do nothing but die.
Loneliness is my companion,
Hatred is the inner voice,
Greed, loathing, and death,
Are shackled to me; as strong as any chain.
I trudge my weary body over the untold years of existence,
Feed myself upon the food of depravity,
Slake my thirst with poison,
And sleep as if the reaper has already taken me.
Hope shattered,
Dreams slashed to ribbons,
Needs never to be fulfilled,
Desires never to be obtained.
Rages consumes me,
Desperation reeks from me,
Fear binds me,
Sorrow drenches me.
What I know now,
I cannot change,
What I yearn for,
Will never come.
Has life so freely given to me,
Abandon me,
Has the love of a woman,
Forever left me.
Neither will approach me,
Neither will heed my call,
Neither will answer to me,
And I will be cast aside, as just another man.
