A Simple World

A SIMPLE WORLD, DO YOU NOT SEE?
I AM HIGH ATOP THE PLATEAU.
STANDING ON ITS VERY EDGE.
I SURVEY THE LAND AROUND ME.
DESERT HUES OF TAN, BROWN, OCHRE, AND SCARLET RED, COLORS THE VISION.
ROCKY OUTCROPPINGS JUT SKYWARD.
BOULDERS LAY STREWN ABOUT.
CACTI, YUCCA, THISTLE, AND AN ASSORTMENT OF OTHER PLANTS, ABOUND IN A RANDOM PATCHWORK.
PLATEAUS, MESAS, AND BUTTES, SURROUND ME.
THE WIND, A GENTLE COMPANION, BATHES ME IN ITS SCENTS FROM THIS LAND OF BEAUTY, AS IT SOFTLY COOS IN MY EAR.
THE SKY, A ICY BLUE, STRETCHES FROM HORIZON TO HORIZON. RANDOM PUFFS OF CLOUDS, MOVE SLOWLY IN THAT AZURE EXPANSE.
I SEE LIFE ALL AROUND ME IN THIS, TO SOME, BARREN LANDSCAPE.
THE COYOTE SCURRIES, LOOKING FOR CARRION OR THE CHANCE MOUSE.
THE ROADRUNNER DARTS TO AND FRO, DINING ON THE OCCASIONAL INSECT.
TWO SMALL EXAMPLES OF LIFE IN THIS WORLD OF SAND AND ROCK.
YET, IN WHAT APPEARS TO BE A BARREN LANDSCAPE, THERE IS LIFE.
WHERE HOT SUN, LITTLE RAIN, AND SPARSE PLANTINGS EXIST, LIFE GOES ON.
I SIT DOWN, AT THE EDGE OF THE PLATEAU, AND CONTEMPLATE THE PETTY THINGS THAT
OVERSHADOW THE WONDERS AROUND US.
WE ARE THE WEAKEST LINK ON THIS PLANET.
IT IS TIME HUMANITY REALIZE THIS.
WE NEED NOT TO LOOK FAR AND WIDE, TO SEE THE BEAUTY AROUND US. IT IS THE SIMPLE THINGS THAT ARE AROUND US.
TAKE YOUR TIME, YOU'LL SEE IT.
AND YOU WILL BE THE WISER.
