Loki's Halloween Visit

We all know it as Halloween
Though Samhain's what it's called
For Loki, our fine trickster friend
To find himself installed --
Those friends of mine on Hallow's Eve
Said, "Come and don't be tardy!
Just wear your favorite costume, friend
Let's celebrate and party!"
And there I was dressed to the hilt
With goodies in my bag
To dress, impress, but I confess
Again I was in drag...
Yes, I was wearing plastic horns
Beneath a cloak and hood
With glowing fangs (though glowing green)
Black nails painted good.
A scythe-slash-staff-slash-plastic-axe,
Henchman of death I was;
Black skin-tight jeans and boots to boot;
Green contacts, just because.
And all was fine 'til friends of mine
Said, "Let us hear you laugh --
Sound evil, casting wide your cloak
And wave that magic staff!"
Embarassed silence came to me
That darkest Samhain night,
That I'd be safely to the side
Not in the grand spotlight...
Yes, there I was in cloak and horns,
And fangs, and plastic staff,
With eyes anticipating me
To give an evil laugh --
Swept wide my cloak from ground to sky,
Looked up with evil grin,
One horn came loose, my cloak flew off!
And guess what it flew in?
It hurled across far to the side
With nary any swerves
And carried what was once my pride
To land amongst hors d'oeuvres.
The once-so-serious plastic horn
Glue failed there to lock,
In Southern Comfort schnapps did land
And splashed a girlfriend's frock;
And after all was said and done
When shock and laughter ceased
One horn (but not a cloak) to wear
I still had fangs, at least.
Into the mirror I did look
To see the damage done;
Dear friends in the reflection -- wait!
I see an "extra" one...
He laughed an evil laugh so loud,
(But only I could see)
And then applause burst forth from friends,
They all thought it was ME!
Reflections, memories still clear
Of all that trickster tried
An evil laugh for all to hear
When Loki's by your side...
Maybe it was, or maybe not!
(My friends know me too well)
Seems even "I" have little doubt,
But I shall never tell! :-)
Author's Notes: Based on a true story. Of course, the extra flowery embellishments to the story are pure fiction. hee-hee
