A Sudden Familiar Comes

Age Group: Adult
Don't know why this cat came to me,
But came to me she did.
At first she was afraid of me
So she ran off and hid.
But with some cat-talk from afar
We two conversed, and good --
Nearby by she'd sit and wait for me,
For water and some food.
And soon she ran to greet me well,
Meowed with cheerful tone;
With growing trust she let me pet,
And cried when left alone.
I'd always thought I'd get a dog
To live indoors with me!
And yet here came this outdoor cat
Who just won't let me be.
A tannish silver birch of fur,
Brown stripes up past her knees,
Blue eyes of crystal clarity,
Half tabby, half siamese.

'Twas she who chose, if anyone,
Who chose me from the rest;
I never planned to fall this hard,
And never would have guessed.
She waits for my arrival home
And greets with love so dear;
Demanding to come in and roam,
Remaining ever near.
