Moments Without Despair

The felioness just sits
And waits patiently
A kind selfless soul
As calm as can be
She knows I am burdened
Untangling life's rhymes
It's so hard to cope
In these difficult times
A glance my direction
To test my attention
And if I ignore her
A "meow" she will mention
A touch from her paw
And one gentle nudge
A moment of peace
A reminder of love
Just one minute, kitten --
For hours it goes
A puff of protest
She blows through her nose
She strolls out the room
To nibble a snack
And when she is done
She strolls right on back
Curls up ever near
As close as can be
The felioness just sits
And waits patiently
Despair shall not find
This moment to steal
Felioness knows
How her love can heal
I pause for that moment
And each time I see
Her gentle expression
She's blinking at me
One moment of peace
Without need to cope
A kind selfless soul
Who nurtures my hope.
Author's Notes: Dedicated to my kitten-cat, who reminds me it's not good to worry all the time. In ways that I don't think she intended, she has reminded me to focus on more important things so that I do not remain lost in the stench of worry but instead take time to smell the roses. And my kitten-cat says that it all begins by scratching her behind her ear. And also, by not buying that brand of cat food she snubs her nose at. Because if I do buy that brand of cat food she doesn't like, well, I know I'll pay for it dearly when it's time to clean the litterbox -- not my idea of smelling the roses. What an important lesson to learn from my kitten-cat.
