When One Door Closes...

Again, one more door has closed.
So I sit before it, and stare.
The deadbolt clink has sounded,
As light fades in sorrow from there;
They say that when one door closes
A new one opens at the same time;
Yet the closed door keeps my attention,
Grief becomes the objective prime;
Fading hope keeps me tightly afixed
On that increasingly hopeless space --
Clinging ever to the door that closed,
Though one opened to take its place.
Holding on to what has been lost
Time of mourning is allowed, you see;
And when the time comes to move on,
There's a door that waits opened for me.
Author's Notes: This poem was initiated in appreciative response to a recent poem by Amber Moonstone, who in turn reminded me of an inspiring quote from Helen Keller:
"When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but we often look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us." -- Helen Keller
So true indeed. I love you my e-friend Amber, and all of my friends whom I hold dear here on WitchVox and everywhere else. Friends help me to get through during difficult times. And also, friends are there to share the good times with. But most of all, friends are there even through the ordinary times when nothing particularly good or bad is happening. I think those regular times are the ones to strive for most of the time, and I couldn't do it without the help of my friends.
