Beliefs

Few know just why I think
And believe the way I do;
Yet open minds and hearts
Prove one's intent is true.
Through all my interactions,
From all I can perceive,
Most all have different views
On things that they believe.
Some show they disagree,
One step to clear the fog;
So much I have accomplished
Through careful dialogue:
Whatever they believed,
At least there was a start
With universal language
The language of the heart;
So if they don't believe
The same things that I do,
Beliefs are not the reason
Their love for me is true.
It begs perhaps some questions
Too many there to count:
I seem to need beliefs,
But are they paramount?
Or are they mere perspective,
Through which I sing a song?
If beliefs keep me secure,
What happens if I'm wrong?
