Glamour Versus Comfort

by Phronesus Disegno
 Age Group: Adult

Tonight's the night I'm going out I'll be the perfect gem! I'll see my friends For the hundreth time; I'm glad for friends like them.
Lost in glamour To look my best Whatever should I wear? Colored contacts Sparkling gems And falsely colored hair...
A sculpted look With clothing pressed Nothing feels like it fits! It's painted-on can't even breathe This glamour thing's the sh*ts.
I do not feel The way I'll look But honey, I'll look GOOD! It's so much work And so much time I don't feel like I should...
No wonder now The best dressed ones Can sometimes be such b*tches! Their smile hides The fact that they Can't scratch it where it itches...
To act demure And be polite One playful little wink But what they'll get Ain't what they "see", No, not at all, I think.
My friends like me For who I am I'm glad for friends like them They've seen me at My very worst And still think I'm a gem...
I've changed my mind Won't do a thing Just sneakers, t-shirt, jeans I'll wear a cap And they won't mind Now THAT's what comfort means!
I wonder now, A passing thought Almost ashamed to mention... If I dress up, And they do not, Then I'LL get all the attention! ;-)
My mind goes 'round, And 'round and 'round, This conflict never ends. Can't blame myself For all these thoughts, I think I'll blame my friends.
Tonight's the night I'm going out I'll be the perfect gem! I'll blame my friends For the hundreth time; I'm glad for friends like them.
Author's Notes: Nonsensical humor about random thoughts.
Now was it that movie called, "The Craft" where one scene they're reading a book that says "glamour" is among the oldest forms of Magick? Well, it would make sense if it's the case.
But if the "times three" guideline is true, then what comes back times three if one is glamorous for a night, only for an admirer to later discover that what was underneath was misrepresented?
Just more random thoughts. I'm just fretting about a formal occasion I will be attending in the near future. I don't mind dressing up. I just mind "having" to dress up. Thanks for listening. Hopefully you found the poem amusing.
