You Think I Love You (And You're Right!)

When I first met you, I could see
You loved no one, and hated me
Selfish, insecure and mean
I smiled once, and you turned green
Could not bear my happiness
Misery loves company I guess
Thought me to be so naive
Thought I had tricks up my sleeve
Occasionally I'd glance at you
My happiness seemed to make you blue
You'd give me back a look of death
And I don't even have bad breath.
Fine, then I'll stand by your side
And show you who I am inside
Thinking I'm false as can be
You see yourself inside of me
But I am real and have depth too,
I see myself inside of you
You won't change your mind tonight
You can't see with blinded sight
So listen then, hear what I say
Come on try it once my way
All you ever want to do is hide
No one heard me either when I cried
You don't have to smile now
Keep on wrinkling up your brow
An enormous smile can chase your fears,
Sometimes gets lipstick in your ears...
See there, that was easy as pie
You cracked a smile and didn't die.
To learn a concept so profound
A little love turns things around
Why do I always seem to care?
You're awful like a grizzly bear
Yet we have never had a fight
You think I love you, and you're right!
Author's Notes: Dedicated to all grizzly bears everywhere, even the ones who wear lipstick... hahahaha!
This poem is a fictional account of a life lesson I once learned about cranky people. Sometimes, if you just stick around long enough, they'll open up and show you that they're really nice people on the inside. It sometimes takes some effort and going over a few speed bumps, but if they are just cranky, and not really out to hurt anyone, then they probably just need to know that the people around them think they're okay just the way they are and are willing to work with them, instead of against them. It's amazing how such people calm down and get along with everyone if this can just be achieved.
