Things We Take For Granted

We take for granted many things
every moment we're awake.
We forget to appreciate the little things
the Goddess gives us every day.
We forget to thank Her for the birds
and all the bugs they eat.
We forget to thank Her for the bugs
that keep our planet neat.
We forget to thank Her for gravity,
the sun, the stars, the moon.
We forget about our oceans,
our beaches, and our dunes.
We forget to thank Her for our air
and all the life it brings.
We forget to thank Her for the phone
every time it rings.
One thing we take for granted most
is our mothers and their love.
We don't remember theyr'e a gift
from the Goddess, up above.
We forget to thank them most of all
for everything they do.
We don't remember the greatest gift
from the Goddess which is you.
So here's for all those times you went
unappreciated and ignored.
We should have smothered you in kisses,
and you should have been adored.
I hope you know I've loved you
in my own special way.
I thank you now for everything,
and wish you a happy Mother's Day.
Author's Notes: Written for my step mother in 2005, some words have been changed because she is a Cristian.
