broken up thoughts

by autumn mari

Age Group: Adult

contradicting the contradiction,
until the point backwards is right side down.
And then some after that ordeal is done,
what color?
what kaleidescope?
what grey?
what black what white what monotone of flesh and blood.
All and nothing, but what it is makes who i am.
Opposing even thoughts conjured by mind so well known.
Until lines blur, right and wrong are gone.
Wearing only what mask fits right,
for that speach
that line
that sweet second of spotlight
held so dearly to fluttering chest.
Then set free to blossom and expand
within the hallways of what it is that I am.
and dwell forever after.
The rainbow side of truth.
but darker is the flip side.
callous, broken, fixed, cynical,
twisted and wrought with questionable pain
self inflicted by the lack of knowing
lack of understanding.
Yearning to be nurtured, fed, giving life.
Only to be let wilt in the forgotten gardens that is my world.
soft light is only cold, and falls upon blind eyes.
Painting canvas crimson,
painting on the pain, the sorrow
the torn dreams and shattered promises.
and birthing forth a third
Numb, Novocaine, needle stung, frozen.
chilling endless void.
only light, no escape.
no shadow to seek refuge under.
lacking the caress of color
the tender flesh,
my white
my cherished white
comes when it is all to hard
and you hit that breaking point.

Author's Notes: this poem means a lot to me. in one of my art classes back in highschool we made a random painting of what we were feeling at that point in time. and i had had a very trying day. so i just threw paint at the canvas reds and blacks. the the next day our teacher told us to sit down and write what the picture made us feel like. and me being a writer actually looked into the picture. rather then at it. and so i came up with one of the most beautiful poems that i have ever written.
