Oak-knower, Acorn-sower

by Thomas Harris
 Age Group: Adult

Never shall I fear the deepest night, For darkness but speaks of the day. Know Light as Light in all does stay. Know true mast'ry is true might.
I, a Keeper of the Air, Pure keep Word untaught of writ All on this tongue, not just script, And whisper all from this fruited lair.
I, a Keeper of the Fire, Sentinel watching Sacred Flame Remember sacrament from which we came And recall the feel of soil of sire.
I, Dralia; I, Draoi; I, Drui. Whet of Wisdom. Wit of Word. Whit of Wand.
I, a Keeper of the Water, Once content a river watching, Now weep at oceans blotching... And dowse meaning while we falter.
I, a Keeper of the Earth, Too thin veil by Mother worn, Stone Her bones, Nature torn, Weeping from pain of birth.
I, Dralia; I, Draoi; I, Drui. Whet of Wisdom. Wit of Word. Whit of Wand.
Veil of Veils... Unweaving in learning... What comes as standing To a foal newborn... And what is as planned As wayward breeze... Changing as the Great Forever... "If" discovering...
And we've stepped up and over Touching unsearchable And wondering at the music Proceeding from the Void And I in Light arrayed Illumine Night displayed Utter the unspeakable.
I, Dralia; I, Draoi; I, Drui. Whet of Wisdom. Wit of Word. Whit of Wand.
Author's Notes: For many years, the Pagan community has been both blessed and vexed by the great amound of secrecy that both enshrouds and embraces our Traditions. When we screen new members of covens, circles and groves, it is done sometimes with fear and trepidation of those things we fear will harm us as much as it is done with a sense of trying to help the honest seeker. I am lucky to belong to one of the few 'open' traditions that allows people to casually visit the rites at appropriate times and places. There are many who disdain such openness. "Oak-knower, Acorn-sower" was written initially as an introductory letter for myself to the head of a group in another state that referred to themself as an ollamh (master bard) , intimating that their group was very closeted. Not saying that that's bad, but it gave me cause to reflect that if our Bards, whose calling it is to have the voice of the Old Ones and to communicate the essence of "Truth in Heart, Strength in Arm, Honesty in Speech", remain in the Night unheard, how shall the Worlds hear the message of Light?
