I Can't Not Love My Cats

Age Group: Adult
You see, I have a brand new bed
New mattress and box springs;
More comfortable than I ever knew
With dreams of many things.
I dream of friendly smiles
Seeing sunny skies ahead;
And when I wake, I do not ache
My bod feels good instead.
But one thing didn't seem to change
When my two cats awake;
In early hours their hunger speaks:
"MEOW!" ...for goodness' sake.
It's not yet time for my alarm
Cats crawl on top of me;
And I cannot go back to sleep
Because I need to pee...
The sun below horizon's edge
At dawn before its shine,
"Are my kittens hungry now?"
Between ankles they intertwine.
Impatient for the magic word
And freakin' like they're itchin',
Aloud the magic words, "Din-Din?"
They dash straight to the kitchen --
"A-one for you, and one for you, "
Like piglets eating crazy;
And now to snuggle back in bed
I'm half-awake and hazy.
And just when I'm about to sleep
A litter box smell in the air;
Good grief I just can't sleep like this
So I clean up over there.
The kitty-cats now fed content
Are back upon my bed;
They refuse to let me fall asleep
'til I scratch-scratch-scratch their head.
And finally they curl up and rest
Now I'll go back to sleep --
A pillow here, and one deep breath,
My alarm clock sounds, "BEEP-BEEP!"
I'd never change my kitten-cats,
I'm blessed by precious beings;
Far more than just a brand new bed
With mattress and box springs.
