When Grain Falls

The wind passes by and touches us
And bends our drying stems with some grace,
Making the burdens we carry
Fall so quietly to the stony ground.
So much for love, I think, fallen
And all on the ground around us
While we seek out a once nearby face
And wonder, what if, what if..
And wonder why it happened
That we should even have met
Much less carried that grain on high
If the world knew in wisdom it would fall,
Fall to the ground around us.
Seeds.
Seeds that I know have been loved
Seeds that have grown in my hands
Seeds that have come to fruition and died...
This grain of love
How I would it would have grown
But instead has falled quiet to earth
Unflasked, Unmasked, and weeping
How truly horrid that love is
When we see it broken,
Broken like this...
Broken on the brown stones
Broken beneath the feet
Broken beneath the toes of time
Weep, O soul, weep
For I know that you are weakened
I know that you are weary
And cannot continue the groaning
Nor the carrying of what it was
For it was too heavy, too great,
And while I would have lifted you high
And rejoiced with you in the sun,
We were rather like the grain
When grain has fallen to the ground....
