Commonpath

Can I see down the street
Where I shall go today
And what I shall do today
As I go, common path, down my road?
Shall I see the stained glass
Scattered upon concrete,
Or the stranger oft ignored
As he goes, common path, upon this road?
Shall I hear problems?
But shall I truly hear?
Shall I see problems?
But shall I truly see?
Common path is the road we tread
As we go slow--
We must go slow--
Common path down this road.
We are the center
Of this world and more
We do not sing alone
We must join the choir
As we go...as we go...
We must join our hands
We must not fear one another
As we go...as we go...
We must love one another
As we go, common path, upon the road
As it rises to meet us
As it goes into the deep valley
As it twists, first this way,
As it turs, again, goes that way
Deeper into trouble and higher into joy
As we all go, common path, down the road.
I shall see my kinsman
Plowing in his field
I shall see my brother
Hefting bags of feed
I shall see my sister
Waiting tables
As we sing in that great choir...
Singing one great song
To which there are not
Written words
Yet to be singing.
I shall smell the rain
I shall feel the wind
I shall taste the sweat of my labor
As I go, common path, down this road.
And when I look back
And see the dark
I will then know the path
Has been led by light.
So's we might follow
Commonpath down the sometimes dim lit road.
