Releasing A Troubled Friendship

Five months I waited
With breath that was baited
You finally returned my call.
Make up your mind!
Am I awful or kind?
Do you want to be friends after all?
I was once on the brink
Of bailing out I think
Not sure if you're coming or going,
'Cause every other minute
You put hatred in it,
Blaming me for things I was never doing.
You told me you love me
With no one above me
You'd never met anyone so kind.
Saying I never cared
I was not prepared
You played horrible games with my mind.
If I proclaim it's the end
You admit I was "your" friend
And hand me a thorny red rose.
What's in it for me?
When I'm not perfect you flee.
With each conflict that's how it goes.
I tried hard to show
How our love could grow
You helped me see life a new way.
You acted happy all along
Never saying what's wrong.
My only "true" friend is yesterday.
With each horizon I see
Freedom's waiting for me,
No reason I should think more of it.
'Cause I'm damned if I do
And damned if I don't...
So take your damned rose and shove it.
Author's Notes: Just because my other poetry consists mostly of humor doesn't mean that I don't occasionally get upset. After waiting for someone I cared about to make up his mind, I suddenly realized there was no longer any point in waiting. So I made up my mind to just get on with life, and this is the poem I wrote to help solidify my decision to do just that. Hope it is helpful for you as well.
