New Man (tanka sequence)

Age Group: Adult
Uncertain future.
New man walks into new job.
People speak unknowns.
Who is this who walks, new here;
One we do not know. New fear.
Revive in minds an
Uncertainty not long ago.
Speculation hurt
Then all, and, like young fawns
Now scent of man makes wary.
Ask questions of all:
"Is this essential to us?"
"What do you do here?"
Feelings of short time abound
When new man wears title: "boss".
Third day is absent,
Rumors again fly around.
Did he quit so soon?
First one to leave is woman...
No reason given, just left.
Shows back up Monday.
New fears arise, questioning
Value of labor.
And somewhere questioning self
For worth, wealth and dignity.
What cost? More than one
Friend taking path down the road
Unable to cope
Changes uncertain he tries
To better his relations
Attempting chatter
With workers who are eating
Or sitting on break.
Is this new ground for new guy?
False security or what?
New talent is shown
You are a poet also
Connection is made
Mind to mind now we're seeing
Still this wariness remains.
