Cats Are So Pet-ticular

by Phronesus Disegno

Age Group: Adult

I got another *brilliant* idea
With a twinkle in my eyes;
One to help save money for me,
But reality proved otherwise...

My cats are quite pet-ticular
They each want a different flavor
Of cat food that they love to eat
Though they never seem to savor;

One likes chicken, one likes fish,
And the third one, well, is worse.
He wants whatever the others have
And all things that don't eat him first.

Now they love canned food the most,
And they also like the dry;
The dry costs less per measure,
The canned costs more, but why?

So I thought because they like the two
I'd see how they would behave
To mix them for the canned food flavor
With the crunch factor they so crave...

They took a sniff, then looked at me,
As if to make me guess
The expressions there, on faces three,
"Why'd you serve us all this mess?"

I wondered if it may have seemed too new,
And I refused to accept defeat;
Perhaps in just a little while
Hunger would compel them to eat.

Instead they meowed, complaining that
I hadn't yet served them food;
They followed me around the house,
To be sure I knew their mood.

So I resign unto the fact
My *brilliant* idea was "not":
They wanted what they wanted to have.
In the end, that's what they got.

Author's Notes: Instead of feeding my three cats three cans of food every day, with dry food on the side, I thought I'd mix one can of food with enough dry food to feed all three cats (in order to save money) .

They were not the slightest bit impressed with the new menu. They're just too particular. I guess I will have to stick to giving them what they want, even if it means paying a little more. :-)
