False Titles of Leadership

So you say that you're high up,
Your title or whatever,
You want me to believe that you
Are somehow really clever.
You say you've studied many years,
Have degrees and this and that,
Do you lead a coven, church, or group?
I'm still quite cautious yet.
Make no mistake, I've heard your claims
But they're hard to accept,
You've proven nothing to my soul,
Who told you you're adept?
For I myself have been around
The block a time or two,
I have inside now what it takes
To challenge all that's "true".
So let me say something of me
That you will need to know,
My trust for you will be hard-earned
And not blindly bestowed.
For if your claims are really true
You'll understand my position
Your ego won't need to be fed
By people's acts of contrition
You'll realize you're a person too
And not better than I
Stand firm behind all claims you make
Yet be an average guy
I say this because so many think
A label gives them power,
But a rose by any other name
Is just another flower.
For you must know from what I've said
A title is nothing to me.
I want to know what's in your "heart"...
This proof takes time, you see.
And if by then I finally learn
You're all that you have said,
I'll show respect and loyalty
For all the years ahead.
