From One Poet To Another

by Phronesus Disegno
 Age Group: Adult

I dare to make a statement That is outspoken as this But poetry helps me express A chance I wouldn't miss
I'm only one of many who Has something else to say Yet reading work of others Let's me know things are okay
To read about somebody's life, Reminding me to feel, And even ANGRY works of art Inspire me to heal...
It's everything from good to bad And all that's inbetween I recognize a part of me And sometimes parts unseen
I never really was alone In this world after all Enforcing things already known, Or learn, or to recall
Potential links between us From true friends to fair weather, But not so different in the end When we are brought together
You see I know that Magick is In everything we do, Myself found in your words has helped (although you never knew...)
Society may not know this But we're all the same within I LIKE being imperfect -- Oh, the joys of fitting in!
I offer you this word of thanks Helping set each other free My life's a little better now And for THAT you get a hug from ME! :-)
Author's Notes: Would you believe, of all things (!) this poem was inspired when I recently heard again after all these years the catchy upbeat theme song to the 80's television sitcom series, "Gimme A Break" sung by the deceased but very dearly beloved Nell Carter. Her personal life outside of being an actress and singer had much difficulty, but she chose to let her light shine anyway. Thank you, Nell, your Magick lives on through me and every other person's life you have touched. :-)
If you're interested, you can hear the theme song too at http://www.sitcomsonline.com/gimmeabreak.html, then select "Theme Songs / Video Clips", and then under MP3s, select "Gimme A Break opening theme song - 1983 version". There are other links to the same song but the MP3 version sounded best on my computer. The site also has a video clip.
Happy reminiscing!
ADDENDUM: Evidently, the site has been updated, and I can't find the MP3 version any more. Maybe for legal reasons they deleted it or made it harder to find, I'm not sure. At any rate, enjoy reminiscing at the site:

...for any past TV theme songs you wish to hear.
Don't tell anybody, but I got the MP3 version of "Gimme A Break" when it was still available. And... I burned it to a CD for me to listen to when I'm driving. :-) You know, I sing along with it, given my operatic tenor voice. Okay, so it's not that enjoyable for anyone else to hear me sing, I can be in tune if I want to, but not if I'm imitating a soprano. It doesn't matter, and, no smart remarks from anyone I've escorted home because they were in in a drunken state and made them listen to this song. You needed a break, 'cause you sure needed one... I gave you a break, yeah, yeah, yeah... I hope you found where you belaw-hawng! (belong) :-D
