Getting to Know the God/dess

by Phronesus Disegno
 Age Group: Adult

Sometimes I wonder...
Who ARE the God and Goddess, anyway? It is possible to know them?
Are they what my parents have been and haven't been to me?
Are they everything I ever learned, and still have yet to learn?
Are they those qualities I ever needed or never wanted in a life partner?
Are they the person I have always been, and the person I wish to become?
Sometimes I wonder... Maybe that's exactly who they are.
Maybe knowing who they are always has been and forevermore will be a matter of knowing myself.
Author's Notes: Having been raised Southern Baptist, I have learned to dislike the idea of some God being "way out there" in the Universe, unsure of whether my prayers could actually get that far and be heard. It doesn't seem to make much sense to have that kind of mixed message.
And also, because of having believed of one masculine God out there in my earlier years, I find it so hard to include what would be a brand new entity to me of equal value, the Goddess. I suppose, then, that I shouldn't try to differentiate between the two. Many believe that the "Divine" is both God and Goddess, and that dividing them by gender is only to make them easier to comprehend according to human standards.
But you know, I don't suppose the divison is always necessary. Personally, I don't want to see them divided, because that is how I relate to my own parents. Different, perhaps, but working together and not divided. I don't want to have to tell where one ends and the other begins. Because after all, I am the biological representation of both of my parents, as one single human being comprised of both, and at the same time, neither.
