Gay, Becoming, and Rising Up....

I am becoming....
Better than what I've been
Bestowed by the Power
Of what currently IS IN POWER
And Pride 'riseth up
On wings as the Eagle'
And I claim it,
Even if'n it don't claim me...
I rise up...
This ***got queer gay boi
What I am
And I am becoming
And what I am becoming
'riseth up'
With healing in these wings.
These wings of Pride
Make me fly, make me fly.
I am rising...
Above the oppressor,
You better believe it,
And I am becoming...
Something bigger
Than what you see
Today.
This sword is Air
And it speaketh commmunication.
This wand is Flame,
...And we gay lil' ***gots just flame, don't we?
This cup is water...
Helps those who need a drink after we show up...
This platter is Earth
Which is what we're gonna use to bury homophobic small minded creeps such as....hmmm...where was I going with this?
O yeah...
This heart is Spirit
Spirit of Pride....and
Spirit of Pride I am becoming.
Rising up on wings as the eagle, y'know.
And it belongs to all of us...
Even me.
Today.
No vote of the immoral ones
Gonna strip me of my being.
Today, nor ever.
I been bashed,
I been beaten.
No more! I rage my fists
Toward that Heaven
And shout, and shout.
For that one has forgotten
What it was like to be
Crucified.
Now his followers
Erect a cross for me.
But, unlike him,
I must speak
and I must be heard.
I will not go silent
Like a lamb to a slaughter,
and I will not go quiet
Into the wilderness for them
Whose conscience
is numbed.
Today, or ever.
For I am becoming.
I am the raging flame,
and I am the rising tide.
I am the wind,
and I am the cooling sod.
And I am gay...
And I am becoming
Today
Rise up, on wings as the eagle.
I shall walk and not be weary
And run and not faint
Rise up, with healing in my wings
Because if they can't fund
A silly little AIDS education project
The obviously aint good enough
To do what I can do on my own....
HMMM, did i say that aloud?
Rising up, Rising up....
Amazing what a bunch of drag queens
Can do when you break one of their nails,
And leave all these butch guys
Gawking, air out of their sails....
Rising up, rising up....
I shall arise into the sun
And fly over the hills....
And you shall know me
In the breeze, rising up....
Today....
For I am becoming....
Author's Notes: This is dedicated to the drag queens that rioted at Stonewall and to three friends of mine who have died of AIDS (and one who just recently scared the living crap out of me by thinking he'd contracted it who shall remain unnamed) Brian, Sterling, and David. And, B., you dang well better stay safe. It's frustrating as all get out being gay, and for many years I was very sensitive about being called a '***'. Well, B., from the AIDS scare above, makes me glad to claim that title just as much as I claim the pink triangle. Sometimes, you gotta take lemons to make the lemonade.
