Overcoming Angry Thoughts

There have been times I felt attacked
Deep down inside my mind,
A person out there caused me harm!
Despite the fact I'm kind...
A rude, obnoxious, worthless foe;
Or a lover I know cheated;
They lied, or they used me, hell I don't know...
Left me angry and depleted.
And I sat there all alone in thought,
Scenarios were brewing;
Those thoughts were grinding in my mind
Just churning, burning, stewing...
Thinking the anger would never pass
Until I made them sweat!
And teach their lousy sorry a*s
A lesson they'd never forget...!
BUT to "think" such things, it only brings
An aggitated threat --
These angry thoughts... the more I "think",
The "angrier" I get!
Then, I remembered something wise,
Advice from Mom so true --
"QUIT THINKING of those gals and guys,
And they'll have no power over you."
And so I thought of other things
(when I calmed down enough to agree) ,
Like pots and pans, and apron strings,
Or the birdie in the tree.
Like the airplane flying in the sky,
How a fish swims upstream in a river,
I wonder if I need to button my fly?
How do some people eat chopped liver?
Like the shooting star seen from afar,
Or a shark way beneath the ocean,
Will I ever learn to play the guitar?
These dry hands could use some lotion.
Like does anyone see when it seems to me
That I need to scratch my crotch?
It's the Flea Market's fault that I found a flea!
And how DOES my Dad drink scotch? (blecchk.)
To dance around a Mexican hat!
Red and orange leaves each Fall.
Did I remember to feed the cat?
I should give my friend a call...
Before I knew it, I was free
From any horrible psychic attack.
Only "I" have control of my mind, you see,
Having thought of why ducks say "quack"...
Having even thought of kings and queens,
And sailboats, and chocolate mints,
Of IMPORTANT things (like jelly beans)
...and I ain't been bothered since!
(But if someone invokes angry thoughts again,
I won't be sitting here guessin',
Try and fool me twice, you little mice!
For I've already learned this lesson.)
