Closet Skeleton

I once sat down to meditate
Within my quaint boudoir
When suddenly I heard a knock
From inside my armoire
I got up to investigate
This curious knocking noise
These silly parts of humble life
Are what my life enjoys
I opened up the antique door
And took it all in stride,
I saw a life-sized skeleton
Just sitting there inside.
He looked at me and smiled
With expressionless sublime
And said, "In case you didn't know,
I've been here a long time."
I took his hand to pull him out
And then to my surprise
His flesh grew back, he looked like ME!
Could not believe my eyes...
He said, "That's right, I'm really you,
A part you left behind,
A part you feared someone would see,
That someone else might find."
We talked a while and I learned
That he was always there,
But what I really didn't know,
That I was unaware,
Within my mind and stashed away
For many years at length
A part of me that I've denied,
A source of hidden strength
He said to me, now that he's free
No longer must I fear,
I've learned to love this part of me
That I could now revere;
I pulled him ever close to me,
The hug LONG overdue,
A teardrop then fell from my eye
As I bid the past adieu
I closed the door to my armoire
And my meditation ceased,
And then I calmly fell asleep
With my skeleton released.
