My Life, My Choices

Age Group: Adult
I'm thinking of a concept
Perhaps just a theory
Founded on human goodness
Individual autonomy
Favoring civilized liberty
Moving forward with admission
To be governed by the law
And by my own permission
One that advocates freedom
And intellectual inquiry
Emphasizing humanitarianism
Not dogmatic theology
Not rampantly running wild
But a sound ideology
Under which I am protected
From arbitrary authority
But wait, this very concept
Is not one that is new!
Born in the 19th century,
And ever since, it grew --
And I am part of it all,
Though gentle as a lamb,
My rights, my choices, my life!
The LIBERAL I am.
