On Middle Age

Age Group: Adult
As I reflect on the years gone by
I see my younger self growing,
Becoming the person I am today.
I did not believe in myself
Because I did not know how
Until I learned to like myself.
I feared going forward
Into the distant unknown
For it was too far to travel
Afraid I would not be prepared
Unable to move myself
From the safety of stillness.
I cannot blame myself
For knowledge I didn't have
Knowledge beyond my understanding
But I used the knowledge I had,
For not doing so would have been
The same as not knowing.
And doing so helped me learn
That what I knew, and what I know,
Is certainly enough for the next step;
I've come so far already
Why would I ever go back?
I'm ready for what awaits me.
What I will one day know,
I stand ready to learn
Until then it shall remain unknown.
For it truly is the unknown
Where one has never been...
Yet in time, I will have gone there.
Understanding how to believe in myself
Discovering faith and inspiration
Becoming who I was meant to be
And now I can look within,
Able to embrace my older self,
Whom I endeavor to become.
