Are they from far beyond?
You see visions in your mind
Does anything respond?
You listen past what people said,
What's there between the lines?
Is there meaning there to find?
It always undermines.
You know what will happen next,
Can you control the trend?
What is this gift you got?
It doesn't change things in the end.
Imagination working at its best,
Does Magick help you cheat?
Making things into what they are not
But is your life complete?

Author's Notes: Written in my early adolescence, perhaps late teens, but the specific date is unknown. This one requires some explanation, as my mood was a bit caustic and sarcastic when I wrote it. After all, I had just been tricked by someone I finally learned was untrustworthy.
It's a poem of my thoughts, a reminder to myself of how to tell the difference between people who have a genuine and sincere interest in their spiritual path, and those who merely use labels to impress people and who claim "special" metaphysical abilities while specifically searching out others who are weak and gullible, in an attempt to compensate for their own insecurities.
Gosh, I hope this poem doesn't offend anyone, but when you've been around the block several times, you realize you've also been tricked several times too by people who were not really teachers, but by people who wanted you to feel that they were special because they didn't feel special to themselves, by people who tried to teach you to think exactly the same way they think so you wouldn't think for yourself, and by people who did not allow you to feel special because it would force them to share the spotlight. That's not teaching, that's brainwashing. To me, teaching is when someone gives you constructive criticism and guides you to be all that you can, to be even more yourself than you already are; but brainwashing is when someone disallows you to have your own thoughts and feelings for the purpose of keeping you oppressed and dependent on them by making you think you are nothing without them.
And so, the title and content of this poem, "Psycho Babble", is my own personal term to use when describing a situation in which I can look back, even after many years have passed, and remember a person who made grandiose claims of himself in an attempt to brainwash and control, only to realize forevermore that what came out of that person's mouth was not wisdom or friendship, but just a bunch of meaningless psycho babble to steal some of my light.
