Inspired by Coffee

Such an idiosyncratic work day
All started with my cup of coffee
Last week I made it delicious
With a creamer of butter toffee
But then I sat the cup down
And let the coffee get cold
As I said, it was a week ago,
So it grew a specimen of mold.
It reminded me of bad thoughts
How I've kept them far too long
The ones which had no resolution
Derived from whatever was wrong
Like the mold, the menacing thoughts
Had begun to deteriorate
In stagnation spawning all that rots
And it certainly didn't smell great
But then I looked back at the coffee
And suddenly became tickled pink
I had such a wonderful idea
So I took it to the breakroom sink
With hot water and dishwashing soap
I cleaned out my coffee cup
Now it's ready to use once again
Rid of things that'd make me throw up
For a moment there in my mind
I realized I could do the same
With spiritual dishwashing soap
(and I realize this may sound lame)
But I scrubbed at those terrible thoughts
With hot water to make them release
It may still take much further efforts
And let's not forget elbow grease
But if not for the mold in my coffee
How long would I take to find
I could clean up bad thoughts at will
All I needed was to make up my mind.
So I poured myself some fresh coffee
As a fresh start to this new day
Flavored again with my butter toffee
And no mold getting in the way.
