Freedom From A Psychic Vampire, Part 3

by Phronesus Disegno
 Age Group: Adult

They told me in order to understand I must put myself in his shoes. On the outside his shoes appeared so grand But inside, left me with the blues.
He lied saying comfort would be unmatched, "Let's trade shoes and walk many places!" I didn't see all of the strings attached, And by strings, I don't mean shoelaces. His shoes outside were rather nice Seeming soft and light as a feather, But inside were thorns, and rocks, and ice, Like severely inclement weather...
By then it was almost way too late, For he wanted to keep wearing my shoes. I told him his shoes didn't feel so great, But he pretended to ignore the news. He knew it meant I'd be leaving soon, And returning his shoes in kind; In his shoes, I could never be immune, He had walked for years so misaligned.
If he told me the Truth from the start I might have been more prepared, But he lied misrepresenting his heart, And so that's why my temper flared... It's also why I had the blues, Disguised in purples and aquas abound, My feet became scarred from wearing his shoes For his mind was not very sound.
I believe I understand, I just might, What it must be like to be him. He tried to cheat me out of my light For his own life was perpetually dim. He never helped himself, in fact, My soul he tried to transfix: For I had things he surely lacked, But some things I just can't fix.
Oh well, I guess that's a part of life Getting tricked into a clever con. But 'twas easy escaping his prison of Ice, Once I put my own shoes back on.
Author's Notes: This is another poem I dug up from my earlier archives. The date is unknown but perhaps circa 1994 or 1995. The original title is "Myself in His Shoes (the Wrong Size) ", but I changed the title for this forum because its content falls in line with two previous poems I have written here.
