Archetypes

by Phronesus Disegno
 Age Group: Adult

The archetypes in my mind Perhaps exist one of each kind, Being both good and bad But they make me glad Being models for my life to find.
They each have a good example With lessons that are ample, I have made it through Thinking, "What would THEY do?" And from each I take a small sample.
To me they are all intertwined, Some are hateful and some are kind, With a glimpse you might see Over time I can be Every last one of them combined.
Author's Notes: Just some random poetic thoughts of having experienced beneficial outcomes from knowledge and experiences gained from learning about archetypal examples. Based on some of the more traditional ones, it seems that over time I have invented a few of my own that have worked well for me. They are of course, personal and specific to me, but that's the beauty of it all, as everyone is free to discover what works for them in any way they see fit to do so.
Actually what inspired me to write this poem was having just communicated recently with someone who told me they were just "trying to do what is right" in the eyes of an unaccepting family. To me, in the appropriate context of my discussion with this other person, this meant they were discouraged from thinking on their own and felt prohibited from being themself. When I encounter this situation, I am reminded of times past that my initiative to seek out what I needed was extinguished, and of course, it makes me unhappy to be reminded of any such thing especially since it was so many years ago.
So I write this poem as a reminder to myself, that I have indeed taken some time in my life to learn what I could in order to have better, more positive examples to follow, as well as the freedom to let my mind explore whatever it wanted in the process so that I could explore the possibilities and grow. One aspect, the one that inspired this poem, began years ago when I read about the purpose of archetypes (you know, like the examples of the Tarot cards) . I don't believe Tarot predicts the future, but I DO believe it can inspire thoughts that would not be thought of otherwise. I guess I just decided all of a sudden to remember how it all began for me, and before I knew it, I had written a poem. ;-)
