Overcoming Bad Habits

I'm changing as time passes
I'm learning something new
Bad habits of a lifetime
I've always seen right through
So long they remained with me
And partly with me now
I tried to overcome them
But just didn't know how
Why did I submit myself
To things that weren't good
In hopes they'd fade away
But in years they never would
'Twas always my decision
To conquer my afflictions
But with nothing else to do
Bad habits became addictions
And now that life is changing
There's someone else involved
Diverting my life's focus
From all things self-revolved
My attention focused elsewhere
Instead of just on me
I find new inspiration
And responsibility
And so I'm trying life now
In a little different way
Bad habits losing attention
Less often led astray
It's not quite over yet
With tendencies still there
But with this lifestyle change
I think I'm getting somewhere
Bad habits of a lifetime
I've always seen right through
I'm changing as time passes
I'm learning something new
