Synergy

Age Group: Adult
Happy people make me happy
You know, the trusting kind.
They have the strength to wield,
But it doesn't cross their mind.
Fearful people make me fearful,
No one to trust, they sense.
Those who create their own danger
And justify harsh defense.
Sad people make me sad
As they face a world of pain,
Trying hard to find their way
When they can't see past the rain.
Hopeful people make me hopeful
For they always find a way,
Creating a sense of calm
To help get through the day.
Could the sad and fearful people
Make up the pro and con,
Recognizing worldly problems
We should better focus on?
Could we take a hopeful person
And a sad one to combine,
And plant one tiny seed
That one day things will be fine?
Could we take a happy person
Combined with one of fear,
Teach the fearful how to trust
When the opportunity comes near?
Could we take a happy person
Combined with one of hope,
To achieve impossible dreams
Where nothing is out of scope?
Combining all these people
To work together and to win,
One small key to success
In this diverse world we're in.
Or sit conceitedly alone
Denigrating revolution?
Is the self part of the problem,
Or part of the solution?
Author's Notes: I rather like this particular definition:
synergy - the interaction of two or more agents or forces so that their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects.
