Oh, and there we were
That time in days gone by,
Listening to the whispers
Of the twilights evening trees.
Sitting by the running stream
As it sang its way downhill,
And our loving spoke endearments
Drifted off upon spring breeze.
And there we were,
Holding hands as we walked
Along the windswept, sandy shore.
Watching gulls dive into the summer wind.
And us, picking up wet pebbles
As our laughter
fled into the wind.
And there we were,
Clinging to each other,
As the leafy trees changed to
Their gaudy autumn dress.
And you and I,
Dressed for our own autumn,
Wandered slowly through our years.
Our words unspoken,
Thoughts only, drift between us.
And here we are,
Snow falls gently on our whitened hair
As we spend our last winter
Together in this lifetime.
No need for words,
No thoughts,
Only comfort in each other
And the knowledge
that our love
Is unending.
