I thought
by Blaze Phoenix
Age Group: Adult
I thought that we were family, that
together we were strong. I must
have been mistaken.
I thought that we had commitment
between each and every member,
that every voice was worthy of
being heard. I must
have been in error.
I thought we ran on love and faith,
that we looked on one another
as brothers or sisters, that we saw
the reflection of the Lord and Lady
in the eyes of our fellows, and that
that was why we were supposed to
always interact with indiscriminate
mutual respect. I must
have been deluded.
I thought that when we stood
hand in hand in circle, and I let
go all shields in perfect trust, that if
someone were going to hurt me
then surely, that would be the time
and the place. I must
have been assuming.
I thought at least there was enough
honor amongst us that, even in poor
judgment, we would not go around
behind unguarded backs. But clearly,
I must
have been
wrong.
