Defeat the Pain

by Aaralyn Wind
 Age Group: Adult

Liquid sunlight falls to dirt Pouring water clouds the sight Inner feelings, torn and hurt Shadowed from the light Like darkened skies at night Without the shine from silver stars Not a soul can spot the scars
Hide the tears, don’t let them fall Be the sturdy wall of stone Walk your path, don’t break and crawl Joy can indeed be found alone Suppress the tiny, weakened moan Revel in the wind so free Be whatever you want to be
There is no girl who needs a man Allow the moonlight as your love Raging beauty, alone you stand An angel, not from up above But as earthly as the flying dove Don’t waste energy on tears Nor on foolish, biting fears
Let the rain come wash away The thoughts of never ending sleep Let the sun brighten the day And sanity you’ll keep Though away it tries to creep Head in the clouds, feet on the ground The perfect balance you will have found
Swim in feelings of the heart But into them do not sink Beauty is a world apart Like on the page, the drying ink Revive yourself with a cool, fresh drink Of stars and sunshine, wind and rain For that, dear-heart, will kill the pain
--Aaralyn Wind
Author's Notes: I had recently broken up with my fiance, and couldn't seem to break out of this slump that took over me. I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep, I couldn't write, and I couldn't even cry. It took me weeks before I could approach my altar, because I had no energy to exert for any sort of healing ritual. I couldn't even pray. Finally, I managed to sit at my altar and focus my scattered thoughts and poured all of my emotions out to my Mother just through focusing my energies. It immediately made me feel better, so I picked up a pen and paper and started writing. I love this poem, and every time I felt down again I read this poem and I remembered just how loved I felt while I was writing out all of my feelings, and just how little lying, drunken young men actually matter.
