The Encounter

Shaking hands, beating heart
A child’s world ripped apart
Degradation, pain so bleeding
Wanting so much to be fleeing
As if in shock, frozen she stands
In front of the abomination man
Voice comes out in wordless stutter
A fearful, incoherent mutter
The flood of memories rush back
Of the two-month long attack
Gasps sneak out of parted lips
As he raises fingertips
To greet her with a wave and smile
A glint in his eye as he starts to defile
The trembling girl in the depths of his mind
Detesting his gaze, she wishes him blind
His mocking grin speaks the truth
Of their past, cold and uncouth
In her heart of hearts she knows
‘Twas her fault that hell arose
Towards her points the finger of blame
Burning tears rise in shame
Tainting ocean eyes so blue
As he takes steps one and two
Towards the girl who cannot scream
Please, oh please, it’s just a dream
Just a nightmare, how she prays
Three steps away, she starts to phase
Into a dark and painful place
She can’t let him touch her again, no disgrace
In running, so she pulls her eyes from his face
Leaves him standing there without a trace
Of the mortified girl who left to erase
The brand new memory to take the place
Of the old nightmares, she knows she must brace
For new ones tonight, without any grace
She’ll cry ‘till she sleeps in her own pitch-black space
Author's Notes: This is quite possibly the best poem I have ever written. It documents a fearful time of my life, one that I know I'll never forget no matter how much I want to.
