Unwelcome Guidance

Destiny, it seems to me
Beckons like the willow tree
With arms outstretched in greeting
‘Tis not our first time meeting
I’ve danced with tender hands of yore
Twirled ‘til my feet were sore
Sang into the sun-soaked wind
Laughed where others said I sinned
Endured the bruises and the blood
That accompanied the fire-flood
Of hell and pain and heartaches many
Spent my heart like it was a penny
Just to rise up from the ashes
And leave behind me all the asses
I saw the beauty with my eyes
Of a world lacking lies
Destiny does not control
Anyone in part or full
Though it touches like a lover
Tries to guide you like a brother
I turned my back on fate’s decisions
For myself; I have my own visions
And I’ll scream it out ‘till destiny cowers
My place is within the flowers
Author's Notes: I've never liked being told that my fate was planned out for me. I think that if you let it, destiny will take you down a certain path, but I'd much rather be in control of my own life and future.
