Just a Mess

It is not
A ham and cheese sandwich
With the crusts cut off
Centered on a plate
With a napkin
and a glass of milk
On the side.
It is a visceral mess
At one point contained
In a mop bucket
That has long ago tipped over
Spilling its slippery contents
Onto the ground
And spraying you
With its red muck.
As you scrambled
To get them
Back in the bucket
You only drenched yourself
More fully
With fluid dripping from your nose
And clearly needing
A new change of clothes.
And as others walk in
On your bit of slippery disorder,
They fall too
Head first
Sliding through the muck.
Oh how wonderful
And how right it feels
To have another
To roll around in the goo
With you
To get messy and stay
(or leave) until eventually,
The bucket lies forgotten
In a corner
While you move
Bathed in the congealing Mess
That is no longer only
Your own
And laugh and scream and smile and cry and moan
At your fortune.
